Guests are immersed into the Mi’kmaq culture at Elsipogtog, First Nation, New Brunswick for 1.5 hours with this one of a kind experience! After a traditional greeting, guests will enter the community raised teepee for a smudging ceremony along with teachings and insights that will help connect the past to the present cultural ways and customs. After this enlightening and significant introduction, guests are led by one of the interpretive knowledge keepers into the natural, forested Heritage Path where they will learn about traditional and time honored ways of using Mother Nature’s gifts and medicines for a better self and community. This 2024 season will see guests experiencing our authentically constructed wigwam, longhouse and sweatlodge made by our local elder and knowledge keeper. Guests will be able to step inside and feel how life would have been like back in ancestral times!
The last part of the Heritage Path journey takes place in the Cultural Centre where guests have a safe space to ask any and all questions they may have about the Mi’kmaq culture, in order to further their understanding of the true way of life at Elsipogtog, New Brunswick. Guests will leave enriched by a deeper understanding and connection to the cultural teachings and ways of the Mi’kmaq!

Getting ready for your tour
Guiding you to fully enjoy and comfortably immerse yourself in the Heritage Path experience.
You’ll be spending most of our time outdoors and the New Brunswick weather can be unpredictable. We recommend wearing layers so that you can adjust according to the weather as well as wear comfortable walking shoes.
The tour involves a light amount of walking, but it is generally suitable for people of all fitness levels. If you or anyone in your party has any mobility concerns, contact us in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
You might want to bring water bottles, all weather jacket, sunscreen, bug spray, and perhaps a hat or sunglasses for sunny days. We will provide everything else needed for the tour.
As the majority of the tour is outdoors, we suggest checking the weather forecast and dressing appropriately. We will provide umbrellas for the duration of the tour, but in cases of severe weather, we may need to reschedule or adjust the tour for safety reasons.
We recommend bringing a water bottle. A traditional snack will be served near the end of the tour.
Yes! The Elsipogtog First Nation community has a multitude of amenities for visiting guests as well as those passing through needing to load up on road trip essentials, camping needs and more.
